Traceological research

Development and implementation of modern methods of use-wear analyses and the technology of tools’ manufacture in the practice of traceological research Traceology is one of the main methods for identifying the purpose of ancient tools, characteristics of production activities, reconstructions of the features of palaeoeconomic systems.

At present, the possibilities of traditional experimental and traceological studies have significantly expanded due to the emergence of new modifications of microscopes with high magnification, including SEM, modern digital photographic equipment, 3D scanning, computer processing of the results obtained, as well as a significant increase in the experimental base of standards, the use of natural science data. This makes it possible to study tools from various types of stone and organic raw materials, as well as from metal, which significantly expands the chronological range of the materials studied.
